Energy Star Home Features
* SLAB PERIMETER INSULATION: 1” thick foam insulation sheets placed on the interior face of the stem wall below the slab as a thermal barrier to heat transfer from the floor through the external perimeter of the house.
* HOT WALL SHEATHING: Sheetrock is placed on the back side of any wall exposed to attic space to reduce air infiltration and improve the insulating capability.
* LOW-E WINDOWS: In warm weather, Low-E glass reflects the sun’s energy and reduces heat gain in the home. In cold weather, Lowe-E glass reduces the amount of heat loss by reflecting it back inside. These features are demonstrated by a U-Value, the ability of glass to block UV rays, and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC), the capacity of glass to block the sun’s infrared heat; the lower the factors the higher the efficiencies. Windows to be rated as Energy Star must have coefficient values below 0.4; Westpoint Homes currently installs windows with U- value of 0.35 and SHGC value of 0.31.
* AIR CONDITIONING UNITS: Westpoint Homes utilizes Lennox units equipped with furnaces having 90% efficiency factor in converting gas to heat energy as opposed to the industry standard of 80% efficiency, effectively reducing energy and maintenance costs.
* SEALED AIR CONDITIONING DUCTS: all of the R-8 insulated duct work’s connections are sealed with zip ties and/or mastic tape and supported at 5 feet intervals to prevent conditioned air leakage and laminar flow.
* MOISTURE BARRIER & DRAIN PLANE HOUSE WRAP: Sheathing on the exterior walls is covered with a water repellent and moisture resistant covering to guide moisture drainage through the weep openings at the base of the walls to prevent water damage to sheathing and mold build up.
* INSULATION: exterior wall cavities between the studs are filled with R-13 insulating batts and stapled securely to prevent sagging. Walls’ bottom plate, pressure treated wood is placed on foam strips to prevent energy seepage. Flat ceilings in the attic space are insulated with R-30 insulation and sloped ceilings are insulated with R-19 batts. Flat ceiling in the attic space where they are floored, are batt insulated. All of the penetrations through the living envelope of the house, where the penetrations create an air passage to the exterior of the envelope, such as wiring, fireplace flue, and piping, are sealed tight with foam and/or fire resistant foam.
* SELF CLEANING WATER HEATERS: continuous agitation in self cleaning water heaters reduces scale build up, improves heating efficiency, and saves energy consumption.
* ENERGY STAR DISHWASHERS: All Westpoint Homes’ are equipped with Energy Star rated dishwashers to save not only electric usage, but also water consumption through utilizing specific washing cycles for specific applications.
* ENERGY STAR HOME CERTIFICATION: Energy Star Homes are designed to specifications, inspected, and tested by a certified independent service provider to insure that it meets government requirements to be rated as an “Energy Star Home” and receives an Energy Star Certification placed permanently in the home along with an Energy Star logo.
